These are lightweight and portable. They’re designed for short trips and must be pushed by a companion. There are standard sizes available to suit a few different weight/height ranges. Bariatric options available.
Manual wheelchairs
Are for both short- and long-term use. Designed so that you can propel yourself or be pushed by a companion. Can be customized for your height and weight and can have customized seat and back cushions. Options available for paediatric and bariatric needs.
Power wheelchairs
Highly customizable with many options to suit all abilities and mobility needs. Driving options include front- mid- and rear-wheel drive.

How much does a wheelchair cost?
The cost of wheelchair varies significantly depending on your personal mobility needs. Almost all wheelchairs for long-term use will need customization for your comfort and safety.
Transport wheelchairs that are suitable for short-term use/short trips start at around $250.

Is there funding available for a wheelchair?
If you are a resident of Ontario with an Ontario Health Card and have a long-term physical disability, you may receive up to 75% funding for a wheelchair or another assistive device if you qualify for the Ministry of Health Assistive Devices Program (ADP).
